The Wedding Journal Reader Awards are particularly poignant as the nominations and the subsequent votes come from the readers of the magazine itself.
The awards ceremony – a vintage afternoon tea party, was held in the Penthouse Suite of the prestigious Belfast Europa hotel on Monday 21st May.
With cake stands’ brimming with delicious delicacies, the champagne flowing and afternoon tea served in the finest bone china tea cups, it really was an evening to remember and particularly so for two of our florists.

Lynda Ferguson – Leaf Designs
Florist of the Year – winner
Room Dressing Co. of the Year – runner-up
Lynda didn’t even know she had even been nominated for an award until one of her bridal customers came in to her florist shop last Christmas and told her. It then wasn’t until the final nominees were announced in the Spring Edition of The Wedding Journal at the start of the year that Lynda realised she had made the short list for “Florist of the Year” and also “Room Dressing Company of the Year”, proving that diversifying your wedding flower offering really has paid off. Lynda was also delighted to have been invited to provide the flowers for the event, which meant her florist shop logo appeared on the menus for the evening too.

Judi Roche – Balla Florists
Florist of the Year – runner-up
When the nominations first came through by email Judi was unfortunately in hospital. She wasn’t even aware she’d even made the top 5 until the invitation came through for her to attend the award ceremony. With no canvasing on her part what-so-ever, Judi’s bridal customers voted in their droves, shooting her up the rankings to see her reach runner-up status. This is a fantastic achievement and a marvellous testament of Judi’s hard work and recognition of her exceptional talent.
