Floristry - Business is Blooming

The not so sleepy town of Oswaldtwistle in Lancashire hit the headlines this week when Rachel McClure of Garlands Florist approached *Dave Fishwick, aka the “Bank of Dave”, for a business loan of £7500.

Despite her excellent credit record and impressive profit margins, Rachel had been unable to secure a loan of £7500 from her Bank Manager so she could give her florist shop a brand new shop front. Astonished at the outcome she turned to Dave, a self-made millionaire for backing.

‘Banking is not rocket science,’ says Dave. ‘The banks have been ripping people off for years. They used to have a responsibility to serve their clients. Now they just serve themselves. It’s like a private club.

‘They gambled away billions of pounds of our money and we bailed them out with billions more. And they still pay themselves obscene bonuses and refuse to lend money to businesses fighting for their lives. It’s disgusting. When the banks lend, they turn £10 into £20 without doing anything. But if it goes wrong, they are bailed out by the taxpayer and the rest of us have to take the hit. How is that right?’

*Dave Fishwick is taking on the big banks by backing businesses himself, thereby supporting local economies and small businesses alike, whilst being able to offer a good return to savers and profits to charity.

Bank of Dave is a two part series which starts on Channel 4 on Thurs 12th July at 9pm. Dave Fishwick’s book Bank of Dave is also available from Virgin Books for £12.99.
