Mother’s Day is celebrated on different days all over the world, with the majority of countries tying it in with other religious or historical celebrations of motherhood.

Mother’s Day in the UK & Ireland
In the UK & Ireland for example, Mother’s Day is not a fixed date but is always the forth Sunday in Lent (Lent lasting for 40 days from Ash Wednesday to the day before Easter Sunday (Easter Sunday being based on the lunar calendar, always falls on the first Sunday following the full moon after 21st March)).

This means that Easter in the UK can fall in different months and Mother’s Day also changes every year.

Mother’s Day around the world
Most countries celebrate Mother’s Day on the second Sunday in May. This date has its roots in American history when it was first celebrated in 1908.

Traditional Mother’s Day gifts
For many, Mother’s Day is a date to show your appreciation and express thanks to the maternal figure in your life, traditionally in the form of gifts of chocolates or flowers, so much so that sending Mother's Day flowers has become the new tradition and the main flower sending event in the calendar.
