St David’s Day – Daffodils (Narcissus)

St David is the Patron Saint of Wales who died on the 1st March circa 589. St David was recognised as the patron saint at the height of Welsh resistance against the Normans. He also founded a Celtic monastic community (The Vale of Roses) - an important Christian shrine, in Pembrokeshire, where today St David’s Cathedral stands.

The daffodil which is in season during the month of March is the symbol of St David.
