Flower facts...
Carnations date back more than 2,000 years so there are a number of theories as to where their name originated... Some folk say their name comes from the Greek word "corone" (which translates as flower garlands) or "coronation" because they were placed in Greek ceremonial crowns. Whilst others insist their name comes from the Latin "carnis", meaning flesh, because of the flower's original pink colour…frankly, we prefer the former theory!
When it comes to its meaning, carnation is also said to express love, fascination and distinction. With each colour holding its own symbolism…
White = pure love and good luck
Light red = admiration
Dark red = deep love and affection
Purple = unpredictability
Pink = a symbol of a mother's undying love
So, next time you're looking for a bouquet to express you adoration, simply add carnations.
